Anna Pike, KD4PCU

Anna Pike KD4PCU

My name is Anna Pike, KD4PCU from Roanoke, AL I became an amateur radio operator 31years ago. Since then, I have enjoyed talking to people from all around the world including as far away as Japan and Australia. I have volunteered at many hamfests, including the biggest one in Dayton, Ohio since 1992. I have been a chairperson for three years at our local hamfest in LaGrange, Ga. I have served my local club as treasurer of the LaGrange Amateur Radio Club for four years. All five members of my family have received our Extra Amateur Radio Licenses and have given out over 2,000 amateur radio tests.

The main reason for going back to college is that I work over 50 hours a week as a general manager at Arby’s in Alexander City, AL and I drive an hour and a half to work five days a week. In 2014 I decided to change careers, and when I went to my first interview, they asked what degree I had. That is when I decided to go back to college to get my degree in Human Resource Management. I graduated from Auburn University in 2020 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Administration with three minors in Human Resource Management, Supply Chain Management, and Aviation Management. I have been with Arby’s for 10 years and am currently a Certified Training Manager. When the Covid pandemic started in 2020 I decided to get my Master’s Degree in Human Resources. Thank you so much to 10-10 for supporting my educational pursuits.

Declan O'Hara KG7HTE

Declan O'Hara KG7HTE

I am Declan O'Hara, a graduate Electrical Computer Engineering (ECE) student at Oregon State University (OSU) finishing my MS degree in June 2023. The Masters project I created and will be leading is a bee hive monitoring system that will monitor the weight, temperature, humidity and time in sunlight of the hive and transmit the data back to my house. I have had my ham license since 2014 being an active member in Linn County A.R.E.S and my local ham club. I have loved building and testing circuits, contesting, helping provide communications at triathlons and other events. In May 2020 I stepped into the role of Linn County’s volunteer exam coordinator (VEC) under ARRL coordinating and administering exams. Ham radio has come full circle for me in this role, from taking my exam as a youth to now helping coordinate the exams and has been very fulfilling. I am currently Oregon State University's amateur radio club president since May 2021 helping to restart the club due to a lack of student involvement during the pandemic. I am designing a three part activity for the club members this year consisting of a 2 meter yagi build, an off-set attenuator build and then hosting a hidden transmitter hunt where members can use the equipment they just built and tested. I have loved being an integral part of growing the OSU club. I am excited to see the club grow and plant the passion of ham radio in new students. Thank you to 10-10 for believing in me and my education journey.

Gary Pike KA4KBX

Gary Pike KA4KBX

My name is Gary Pike KA4KBX from Roanoke, AL. Thank you to the 10-10 Scholarship Foundation for this scholarship. I am a non-traditional student at Auburn University studying electronics and cyber security engineering with research in preventing infrastructure attacks utilizing electronic and radio frequency side channel attacks and counter measures. I have been an amateur radio operator since my pre-teen years having been mentored at the early age of six by a neighbor. I grew up volunteering for public service events using my ham radio with the local radio club. I volunteer for bike rides, search and rescue, Skywarn, ARES, MRC, CERT, and most recently online testing for ham radio license exams. I have a wife and three sons that are all Extra Class operators. We enjoy volunteering as a family and travel to several hamfests annually including Dayton Hamvention to volunteer. We are members of several area clubs and participate in club activities, contests, and field day together each year. I am very active in proctoring exams for amateur radio licenses. With ARRL alone I have proctored over ten thousand exams and have conducted over six thousand sessions. I have also proctored exams at Dayton Hamvention and several other hamfests throughout the south. These have been done with Laurel VEC, W5YI, Anchorage, CaVec and a few others. Through these exams, I have had contact with well over twenty thousand applicants over the years both in-person and online. I love contesting and field day or any other excuse to get on the air and make contact with other hams throughout the world. The most important thing that comes to mind is giving back to the ham community either through volunteering or mentoring and I enjoy both.
